"Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" is the inspiring weight loss success story of Jimmy Moore who made it his New Year's resolution on January 1, 2004 to lose weight once and for all. While others quit after only a few days or weeks, Jimmy pressed on until the next New Year's Day when he had shed 180 pounds from his 6'3" frame.

This book is not just another diet book trying to tell you the "hidden secrets to weight loss success" nor is it the latest media-hyped fad diet that will do nothing to help you lose weight if you are overweight or obese.

Instead, it is the real-life success story of how one man who was morbidly obese and on the verge of declining health and quite possibly an early grave was able to pull himself up out of the inevitable consequences that come with extreme obesity.

"Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" literally helped Jimmy overcome a lifetime of weight problems to become a physically fit and athletic person because of the healthy benefits he has enjoyed on the low-carb lifestyle.

This book contains the 10 life-changing characteristics that Jimmy implemented to transform his body from a 410-pound man into the healthy and vibrant individual he is today.

Each chapter pinpoints a specific aspect of Livin' La Vida Low-Carb that kept Jimmy losing fat even as others were quitting on their "diet." Topics include water, exercise, sugar, carbohydrates, vitamins, motivation, perseverance, support, and commitment.

Written in a no-nonsense, conversational style, "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" tells the truth about low-carb, offers advice about countering the constant negativity that this way of eating has received, provides instructional moments about how low-carb can work for you using examples from Jimmy's experience, challenges people to educate themselves more about low-carb living, and even throws in a few of Jimmy's favorite low-carb recipes.

Jimmy Moore has been radically changed for the better all because of the low-carb lifestyle. Let his personal testimony, in his own words, motivate and encourage you in your own weight loss journey.

"Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" includes a foreword by Ralph Bristol, a radio talk show host who conducted a weight loss contest that Jimmy won, as well as quotes from Jonny Bowden, author of Living the Low-Carb Life and Jacqueline A. Eberstein, R.N., co-author of Atkins Diabetes Revolution.

"Sadly, I must concur with others...." 2009-12-27
By A. Crafton
I bought this thinking it would add to my low carb book library in a meaningful way; basically I found it to be a regurgitation and rehashing of blog postings galore. For someone who is just starting and wants a feel-good book about how someone else did it, this would be ok for them. If they were wanting a meaty 'how to' and immersion into the LC lifestyle, I'd definitely point them elsewhere. It's not really for someone who is a LC virgin (if you want them to learn), nor is it all that enjoyable for the LC veteran unless you don't mind spending money on a book that really only rah-rahs and doesn't contribute anything you can't find on various Internet chat boards for free.

I find it sad that so many people feel it's necessary to attack anyone who dares post a less than 5 star review. Even Dr. Atkins' books are subject to 1 star reviews and they are imminently more educational, in my opinion. It's entirely possible to not like a book and post accordingly, it doesn't reflect personally on the merit or worth of the author as a person. Take it accordingly.

"sugar is not my friend...." 2009-11-24

Thanks for an honest sharing of your story Jimmy! I especially loved the chapter on changing your mindset about sugar. I have been saying to myself that "sugar is not my friend, sugar is not my friend!" But your version is sooo much better!! Thank you for all of the hard work you are putting in trying to share the truth about sugar in our diet. I wish you great success!

"Wonderful story - dreadful book" 2009-05-18
By Elizabeth G. Melillo
With the possible exception of Jimmy himself, there is no greater supporter of low carbohydrate dieting than myself, and I always am glad to see efforts to make this way of eating known and popular. His weight loss has been astonishing, and the honesty (which could subject one to open abuse in a time when the thinking sadly remains "grains are supreme") is laudable. Nonetheless, this book employs a writing style of "don't say in ten words what one may say in 200," and attitudes (particularly in relation to experience with and encouragement from others) which display a naivete which would make Winnie the Pooh seem sophisticated.

As a single example, the entire chapter devoted to the value of drinking water could have been reduced to two sentences without any lack of information. The remainder sounds like a sports coach trying to encourage an infantile team with no attention span - and what clearly is meant to be encouraging comes across as annoying self absorption.

Jimmy's seeming conviction that others who make comments about another's weight are concerned solely with the others' health, and uniformly intended kindly, make me wonder if he's been on holiday on Jupiter for his adult life. I've had enormous success with low carbohydrate dieting, yet even (in my pre-low carb days, since I have a lifelong weight problem) I was far less than a third of the weight Jimmy was, I found an equation that was most distressing: be in the company of five or more women, and at least one will make disparaging comments about appearance (yes, appearance, not health, though the latter 'concern' can be a smokescreen. The same 'helpful' souls recommend girdles and black suits in the next breath, so health is hardly their concern.) It also is totally unrealistic to assume that most people whom one meets will be encouraging of low carbohydrate eating, unless they themselves have personally experienced its benefits. Even if one is initially encouraged in weight loss, the moment one reveals it was in a low carbohydrate 'lifestyle' (one of Jimmy's tiresome traits is making certain one does not say diet, though the meaning of the word is only what one eats, and one may speak of the 'diet of bears' without assuming this means they eat honey for a while and then give up), the likely response will be that it is unhealthy, doesn't work (even if one is half the size one was), causes kidney failure and heart disease, and so forth. In fact, and tragically, many who have success with low carb end up abandoning this only because a doctor, nutritionist, or article convinced them it wasn't 'safe.' Jimmy's cosy picture of never being criticised (at 400 pounds!) except out of loving concern, and of having encouragement at every corner since, is far from what most experience would prove.

For all that I greatly admire both Jimmy's weight loss, and his continuing efforts to promote knowledge of the advantages of low carbohydrate eating, the book itself is stale and padded - and could have been compressed into a single-column 'weight loss success story' in a tabloid (if tabloids would give attention to a diet so contrary to Weight Watchers or Oprah's recommendations.)

"This is a MUST for anyone interested in Low Carb!" 2008-12-18
By Brian E. Sharp
Jimmy Moore is a man that has lived both sides of the weight loss coin: Low Fat, and Low Carb. At different times in his life he lost over 100 pounds using each of these methods, but only one of those has been sustainable: LOW CARB!

He is down to earth and is an enjoyable author. I bet you won't be able to put this one down, and even if you're not interested in Low Carb, the story of his journey alone is well worth the price of admission. This book will get more than one read this year on my nightstand.

Thanks Jimmy!

 "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" 2008-09-17

I purchased this book because it has such good reviews on this site. I'm convinced that Jimmy Moore must have a lot of friends who reviewed the book and gave it those good reviews. It may interest people who have absolutly no knowledge about weight loss and low-carbs. I found it to be extremely basic and boring.

After an attempt to read this book, I coninuted by scanning. There was nothing new, helpful or informative. I found the author to be a bit too self-important.

Save you money and look for something interesting and with some depth.
